Ronald McDonald

BASIC INFO TO KNOW

Ronald McDonald is a clown character used as the primary mascot of the McDonald's fast-food restaurant chain. He inhabits the fictional world of McDonaldland, with accompanying characters such as the Hamburglar, Grimace, Mayor McCheese, Birdie the Early Bird and The Fry Kids.

Ronald first debuted in 1963 on three separate local television channels. The first live appearance of the "Hamburger-Happy Clown" on tv featured Willard Herman Scott Jr—who also portrayed the ever famous Bozo The Clown in 'Bozo's Circus' (1961-1980). Bozo was a very popular children's tv character as the time, which helped push the love of the McDonald's resturaunt chain. Originally, Ronald sported a red and yellow striped shirt, a white collar, white facepaint with big red painted lips, a trayed combo meal as a "hat", and a small drink cup on serving as a nose. Most notably, his hair wasnt always the bright red you know today. Ronalds first debut showed him with short, spaghetti-like hair.
